Kem Badminton Astro tryout at Likas this Saturday

 

KOTA KINABALU: In support of local national sports, Astro will expand its Kem Badminton Astro tryout training sessions this Saturday, Oct 5 at Dewan Badminton Kompleks Sukan Likas, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from 8am to 11am.

The Kem Badminton Astro 2013 was launched on Sept 14 by Datuk Saravanan Murugan, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports at the Kompleks Sukan MBMB-MSN Melaka followed by the second tryout sessions in Pahang last week.

Over 500 children from Johor Bahru, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Melaka, Terengganu, Kelantan, and Pahang as well as in the recent selection at Arena Sukan, Simpang Tiga Kuching, there were 298 children from Kuching, Miri & Sibu who took part in the tryouts.

Kem Badminton Astro, organised by Astro Kasih, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, Badminton Association of Malaysia and Nippon Badminton Association, Japan, is a youth development programme that aims to identify and nurture the badminton playing techniques of talented children from 10 to 12 years old and to become the country’s next generation of professional badminton players.

All six tryout sessions will be headed by Muhtasham Katan, a qualified BAM coach, BAM Education Panel Coach, BAM & BAC (Badminton Asia Confederation) instructor as well as MSN Coaching Manager and assisted by at least 10 BAM coaches at every tryout location.

Upon completion of the six tryout sessions, 60 outstanding children will be selected to undergo a one-week intensive training in Kuala Lumpur to enhance their skills, fitness and strategy conducted by qualified Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) coaches, national coaches and national players.

The best 30 out of 60 participants will have the chance to experience a two-week overseas intensive training in Tokyo, Japan later this year, as part of the collaboration between Astro Kasih and Nippon Badminton Association, Japan.

The 30 selected participants will be trained together with Japan’s Kanto junior team by Nippon Badminton Association coaches at the Ajinomoto National Training Centre. They will be housed at the prestigious athletes’ village.

Also during their training in Japan, Kem Badminton Astro’s participants can look forward to a friendly match against Japan’s Kanto junior team to test and further improve their badminton skills.
