Three Indonesians get 2 months’ jail for work pass violations


KOTA KINABALU: Three Indonesians were each jailed two months for violating the condition stipulated in their passes by working at a factory.

Deputy Registrar, Dana Arabi Wazani, who sat as Sessions Court Judge, handed down the sentence on Edu Paso, Nova Yuliyana and Ruslan Lazar after all of them admitted to committing the offence on July 22, at 11.45pm, at HKT Realty Sdn Bhd in Jalan Nountun, Inanam.

They were convicted under Rule 39(b) Immigration Regulations 1963 which provides for a fine of up to RM1,000, or a jail term of up to six months, or both.

The court ordered the Indonesians to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest on July 22 and to be referred to the Immigration Department after completing their sentences.

Prosecuting Officer Muhd Shafiq Amin from the Immigration Department prosecuted.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old Filipino was sent to prison for three months for entering the State illegally.

Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz meted out the sentence on Junisel Dimel after he admitted to entering the State without any documentation.

Junisel was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department upon completing his jail sentence. –ECA
