BMSC swimmers champs

 

KOTA KINABALU: The Blue Marlin Swimming Club (BMSC) swimmers splashed to a total of 57 gold, 35 silver and 24 bronze medals to clinch the overall title in the just concluded 18th Brunei Age-Group Swimming Championship.

From their medal haul, a total of 15 new meet records were recorded at the meet, held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, where they sent 16 swimmers including their back-up swimmers under coach Tie Mee Kiong.

BMSC swimmer Wong Kar Seng was the toast of the team when he won 10 gold medals in the Boy’s 17-18 years age-group category in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, 50m and100m butterfly, 200m medley, 50m and 100m backstroke events.

The Sukma trainee in the process broke six meet records.

According to BMSC President Jeffery Yong, among the other swimmers who contributed the rest of the gold medals were Elly Wong Xin Ping with 10 gold medals (9-10 years), Baveliana Wong with a similar 10 gold medals (11-12 years), Nicholas Law with 8 gold medals (9-10 years), Yap Jia Yee with 5 (13-14 years), and Michelle Yong with 4 meet records (under 8).

Jeffery was elated with the swimmers’ overall performances, especially some of their elite Sukma swimmers, who have been training under SSC coach Alex Lim Keng Liat and Tie as the intermediate coach.
