KOTA KINABALU: Tuaran District Education Office counsellor Stanley Missun who juggles between work, personal life and study has been rewarded with the 2019 Plums Icon Award by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

He received the accolade during the postgraduate awards ceremony in conjunction with the 21st UMS Convocation Ceremony 2019 recently. Plums is the acronym for UMS centre for external education.

“No words can describe how grateful I am with this award which recognises my achievements at state, national and international levels while I am studying in UMS,” Stanley said who received his scroll in masters in human capital management.

“During my study at UMS, I managed to balance my career and study, which is taxing. Imaging during the day, I am working as civil servant and during the night, I am struggling to attend class six times per week,” he shared.

Whilst during doing assignments, Stanley from Kampung Tenghilan, Tuaran also travel to overseas to engage in plenty of charitable and welfare events where he won a series of awards including the youth and humanitarian award in Sydney, Australia.

“At one time I was in Nepal during the day and arrived at Kota Kinabalu International Airport during the night. I immediately rushed to campus to attend class.

“Not forgetting, there was a time I reached home at dawn from overseas, then proceeded to do a group assignment for my programme course in the afternoon and do the presentation in the evening before the lecturers,” he said, adding that he had to be mentally and physically strong to overcome the time constraint.

And being a knowledge pursuing person and at the same time there is the work commitment to handle, he said the road is never easy, but with strong determination, dedication and hard work…impossible is possible, he said.
