Tour boat drivers tested positive for meth

KOTA KINABALU: Two tour boat drivers were arrested after testing positive for meth during random drug tests by police at the Jesselton Jetty about 1pm Tuesday.

The intra-agency operation between district Marine and Narcotics division screened 24 people between the ages of 20 to 45 after they were brought to the Marine police headquarters nearby.

“The influx of tourists who flock to the islands here vastly contribute to the tourism and service sectors.

“The Sabah region 4 Marine Police are committed in safeguarding these tourists and also the country’s stand in the war against drugs,” said its commander ACP Pajeri Ali in a statement.

The duo were brought to the district police headquarters in Karamunsing under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act, putting them liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or an imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years. – By Jonathan Nicholas
