Fire destroys factory storehouse

KOTA KINABALU: A warehouse of a furniture factory along Jalan Putatan-Lok Kawi was destroyed in a fire yesterday afternoon.

Forty-eight firefighters in six fire engines rushed to the scene on being alerted at about 1,30pm and they managed to put out the fire by 2.05pm.

The fire engines were from Sembulan (4), Penampang (2) and one each from Lintas and Papar.

State Fire and Rescue Department’s public relations officer Ibnu Sahad Haji Punggak told New Sabah Times they were still investigating the cause of the fire and extent of damage.

He also said no casualties were reported.

Ibnu added that the fire was likely to have started several minutes before 1.30pm.

Among the items in the warehouse that were destroyed included chairs, beds and wardrobes
