KOTA KINABALU: Tongod district will be hosting a product festival or FIKS Tongod 2019 for two days from March 27 that will also feature local products from the other districts.

Organised by Tongod district office and Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR), the festival will be held at Dataran Terbuka Tongod.

Tongod district officer Rashid Abdul Haran in a press conference on Tuesday said that the FIKS Tongod event has several objectives in which one of it is to showcase local products from Small Medium and Enterprise (SMEs) around Sabah especially in Tongod district.

“I hope that the event will motivate and create more entrepreneurs from Tongod whose products can be sourced from local resources such as fish, wild durian, tapioca, and banana.

“Hopefully, this will create awareness of the rich natural resources found in the district and the potential to value-add these resources,” he said.

According to Rashid, Tongod can be a new tourist and agro-marine destination as the likes of Imbak Canyon and Maliau Basin which are natural gems of Tongod.

The festival would also raise the profile of Tongod district and thus assist the government to develop the district and also the tourism industry.

Some 150 exhibitors including 50 from the district, comprising SMEs from all over Sabah will showcase their unique, exotic and iconic products.

“To further increase the participation of Tongod entrepreneurs in the exhibition, DIDR has also organised a food processing course to produce products that will be exhibited at this event.

Besides the local products exhibitions, there are other various kinds of attractive events such as lucky draw, karaoke competition, and local dance performances.

Also present during the press conference was Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR) director Stephen Sampil.
