Seven killed in road accidents

 

KUALA LUMPUR: Five men, including two Indian nationals, and a woman died while another woman was seriously injured in two separate road accidents at the Middle Ring Road 2, near Tasik Selatan and Kampong Tiroi in Seremban yesterday.

In the accident at the Middle Ring Road 2 at 5am, three men and a woman died when the car they were travelling in hit the concrete pillar of a viaduct before turning turtle onto the opposite lane.

The four who died in the accident were identified as Chin Kam Weng, 41, from Ipoh, Perak, Rohaya Hamid@ Saad, 30, from Sekinchan, Selangor, Kong Siew Ming, 24, from Taman Tenaga, Cheras and Kong Kok Keong, 30, from Sungai Siput, Perak.

Chin and Rohaya died on the spot and their bodies were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital while Siew Ming and Kok Keong died shortly after arrival at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (PPUKM).

In the incident, Rohaya was sitting on the front passenger seat while Siew Ming was the driver of the Proton Saga Aeroback. Chin and Kok Keong were sitting in the back seat.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Chief, ACP Abdul Wahab Abdul Rahman said all the victims in the car died of serious head injuries.

He said police had to seek assistance from the Sungai Besi Fire and Rescue Station which sent a team to retrieve the bodies of the victim who were trapped in the car.

In the other accident at Batu 7, Jalan Labu near Kampung Tiroi in Seremban, two men died while a woman suffered serious injuries when the Kancil car they were travelling in collided with a lorry at 2pm.

A police spokesman said the Kancil was driven by K. Kochunny, 66, from India while the woman, identified as Patilla Puzhankara Renukadevi, a local, was sitting in the front passenger seat.

“The rear seat passenger, only identified as Ramachandran, also an Indian national in his 20’s, died on the spot together with the driver,” the spokesman told reporters at the scene.

The lorry driver and attendant, both locals, sustained injuries and were being treated at the Seremban Hospital. Pastilla was also receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The spokesman said the bodies of the two Indian nationals were also sent to the Seremban Hospital.
