KOTA KINABALU: More than 200 golfers have signed up for the 1 Borneo and Rotary Club of KK South Charity Golf Championship that offers attractive hole-in-one prizes worth more than RM1.3 million. The charity championship jointly organised by 1 Borneo, the largest Hypermall in Borneo and Rotary Club of KK South, will take centre stage at the Sutera Harbour Marina Golf and Country Club golf course on July 27. Head of State Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah and Mayor Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim are expected to grace the tournament which is aimed at raising funds, where proceeds from the event will be channeled to fund various community projects that have been lined up for Rotary year 2008-2009. “We are hoping to raise RM50,000 after expenses,” said organising committee chairman Dr Ganesh at a press conference yesterday. “Amongst these are to provide clean water and sanitation for a village in Pitas, to carry out literacy programmes amongst the poor students in Pitas and Kota Marudu as well as to carry out avoidable blindness campaigns for primary schools in rural areas in the West Coast region. On the tournament, Dr Ganesh said that so far they have received over 200 entries. “We are hoping the tournament will attract 250 golfers,” he said, adding that they are limiting it to 280. Dr Ganesh revealed that among the attractive hole in one prizes to be won are a unit of the Prince Tower Super Condo at 1Borneo with a market price of more than RM1.2 million (Hole No 7) and a 4×4 Mahendra Scorpio worth RM100,000 (Hole No 2). The rest are a one-term golf membership at Sutera Harbour Marina Golf and Country Club worth RM15,000 (Hole No 17), and also one-term social membership at Sutera Harbour Marina Golf and Country Club worth RM5,000 (Hole No 15). Both are sponsored by Sutera Harbour Marina Golf and Country Club. There will also be lucky draws for every participant and one special lucky draw prize – a 37inch television set is up for grabs.
