Taxi, car rental ops ask politicians to appeal to govt to review directive |
KENINGAU: Taxi and car rental operators here have asked politicians to appeal to the government on their behalf to review a directive that they are not allowed to use vehicles that are more than 25 years old. A spokesman for the group Tobari Tindil, 38, said they are not ready to comply with the directive issued by the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (CVLB). “The prices of almost everything had gone up but our income is on the decline. How can we afford to replace our vehicles?” he quipped. He said they hoped the CVLB would seriously consider review the directive. That safety of passengers was paramount. “We understand that the directive was line with the government’s efforts to upgrade the country’s public transport service but we are all required to send our vehicles to Puspakom for inspection once every six months,” he said. |
