Explain advantages of e-govt, officers urged

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Information Officers have been urged to explain to the public the advantages of e-government.

Making the call, Resource Development and IT Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai said this would facilitate their dealings at service counters in government departments.

He was speaking at the launch of a one-day conference for CIOs of state government agencies at a hotel here yesterday.

Also present were Deputy State Secretary (Development) and state CIO Datuk Gregory Joitol and state Computer Services Department director Dr Haji Munggu Haji Juman.

Dr Yee said knowledge of ICT and e-government would not only enhance an agency’s competence but also enable it to form smart partnerships with other agencies in efforts to enhance their service delivery.

The papers presented included ‘Understanding Telecommunication Networks’ by TM Sabah general manager Sukkuriya Masri and ‘e-KL’ by director of Mampu’s e-KL Division Wan Mohd Rosdi Wan Dolah.

Meanwhile Gregory said a review of the government delivery system is necessary so that it meets the public’s rising expectations, including through websites and online applications to save time.

CIOs of state government agencies should also endeavour to enhance the use of ICT in their own agency as part of efforts to realise the state government’s Halatuju, he added.
