Unemployed man jailed, fined for stealing 1.1kg Milo

 

KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed man was jailed a month and fined RM200 in default two weeks’ jail for stealing 12 packs of 1.1kg Milo worth more than RM200.

Mohamad Akbar Busra, 34, who was brought before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, stole the items on Sept 9, at 10.30am at Giant Supermarket in Kolombong, Inanam.

He was convicted under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine.

Based on the facts of the case, an in-house detective saw the accused acting in a suspicious manner. He then followed Akbar from behind and saw him taking a carton (12 packs) of Milo and walked to the counter.

Other customers were queuing but the accused took off without making any payment. He was nabbed at the exit. In the same court, five drug offenders were jailed and fined for dealing with drugs.

Junaidi Jimlani, 26, was jailed seven months for possessing 0.04 grams of syabu on May 10, at Kg Sembulan Lama. He received another six months’ jail for taking drugs.

The court, however, ordered the custodial sentence to run concurrently.

Another man, Fazly Rosli, 30 was jailed 11 months for possessing 0.81 grams of syabu on June 5, at Penampang Baru. Fazly was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after completing his custodial sentence. Stephanus Yohanes, 23, was fined RM2,600 in default eight months’ jail for possessing 0.28 grams of syabu on July 7 at Bundusan, Penampang.

David Moinil, 25, received six months for possessing 0.09 grams of syabu on May 8 at Kg. Babagon, Penampang. Meanwhile, Ajirin Rasin, 38, was fined RM2,000 in default six months’ jail for taking drugs. He was tested positive on August 3 at the Central Prison here.
