Burnt car, charred remains still a mystery

PENAMPANG: The identity of the man who died in a burning car and the cause of the fire are yet to be known as authorities are still probing the case.

According to district police chief, DSP Rosley Hobden, the deceased could not be identified as his remains were charred beyond recognition, and have been sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post mortem.

Relating the incident that happened at around 4.40am near Restoran Sinar Mustika in Donggongon here yesterday, he said that the police were notified of the incident by the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD).

“Eyewitnesses at the location said that they saw the fire started at the front of the car before calling the FRD,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Rosley said that family members of the deceased have come to the district police headquarters.

He said that the FRD is investigating the cause of the incident, while the case is being classified as Sudden Death Report.
