Free health check at SMC on April 3-5 |
KOTA KINABALU : The Sabah Medical Centre (SMC) here will be organising its “World Health Week” from April 3-5,in conjuction with the “World Health Day” celebration for this year. During this period,it will be providing free health checks for Body Mass Metabolic Index,Blood Pressure,Blood Sugar and Vision. This was announced in a statement issued here yesterday. Besides this,there will also be a free health talk on April 5,to be presented by its group of specialists namely Dr Kunasegaran Ragavanaidu,Dr Timothy William,Dr Helen Lasimbang and Dr Terrence Thomas. They will speak on such topics like “Laboratory Role in Early Detection of Diseases”, “Staying Healthy While You Travel – A Primer for Corporate Travellers”, “Safe Pregnancy” and “Newborn Screening – Giving the Best to Your Child” respectively. The talks would be conducted at its Auditorium starting at 10am. In the statement SMC also reckoned the significance of climate change as reflected in the theme if the World Health Day celebration this year -“Protecting Health from Climate Change”, as declared by the World Health Organisation (WHO) “Climate change is a significant and the fastest emerging threat to public health.There is growing evidence that global climate changes affect the health and well being of human beings,” adding that SMC has always put itself in the forefront to support WHO’s effort in addressing health-related issues through the organising of such health awareness programs like the World Health Week. It thus called on the general public to actively come forward to attend the said occasion and to take full advantage of the free health checks and free health talk provided by the Centre.
