14 Sabahans set for national duty

KOTA KINABALU: Fourteen Sabahans are among the 30 players who have been shortlisted to attend national centralised training in preparations for the 9th edition of the AFF Women’s Football Championship, which will be held in Mandalay, Myanmar from July 26 to August 4, 2016.

Of the number, five of them namely, Cassandra Devi Jeremiah, Eslilah Esar, Haindee Mosroh, Sihaya Ajad and Ainie Tulis were part of the MISC-MIFA side that won the 29th Tun Sharifah Rodziah Football Tournament in Sintok, Kedah last month.

Their MISC-MIFA teammate Nurul Hamira Yusma Mohd Yusri also made the 30.

Asma Junaidi, Shereilyn Elly Pius, Jaciah Jumilis, Usliza Usman, Yasrikalaura Tumas, Keroline Raymond, Masturah Majid, Marcella Angela Parais and Alesca Ungkau are the other Sabahans in the list.

Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Sabah (SSMS) duo of Selangor-born Nurul Azurin Mazlan and Nurathirah Farhanah Zairi from Negeri Sembilan, who were part of the Sabah side that finished runners-up to MISC-MIFA at the recent national championship, have also been included in the list.

The rest of the players are three from Sarawak namely Rabiah Bashriyah Abdul Kadir, Merydiana Sundawat and Rogayah Ali, Malini Nordin from Kuala Lumpur, Pahang’s Norsuriani Mazli, Nur Haniza Saarani, Fadhatul Najwa Nurdarahain, both from Perak, Noor Hartini Jasni, Nurul Ashikin Mohd Josrie, Nurul Izzati Zainol (all from Kedah), Nor Atikah Bakar (ATM) and Angela Kais (Police).

These selected players are to report for training camp from June 1 to July 23 at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah. They will be training under the watchful eyes of national head coach Mohd Asyraaf Fong Abdullah. In the AFF Championship, Malaysia have been drawn in Group B alongside hosts Myanmar, Australia Under-20 and Timor Leste.

The national side will be heading to China on July 15 until 19, to play numerous friendly matches as part of their preparations.

Seven other players namely Siti Rohani Sapthu (Sarawak), Pedrolia Martin Sikayun (MISC-MIFA), Maznah Ali (MISC-MIFA), Rozeinie Dusileh (MISC-MIFA), Nurul Atiqa Zaifulizan (Kuala Lumpur), Zaffeyka Zakaria (Sabah) and Lovelytha Jelus (Police) have been put on standby list.
