SANDAKAN: Muslims celebrating the Hari Raya Aidilfitri in a few days have been advised to spend wisely and not be extravagant.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said they should avoid wastage as demanded by Islam and therefore spend only on what is needed.

“We must be wise when spending and buy only what is required for the celebration,” he said when speaking at an event to distribute aid at Kampung Padas near here yesterday.

He also urged the people to make use of the Ramadan month to foster ties and fellowship whenever they gathered for buka puasa and prayers.

The Chief Minister also handed out aid and broke fast with the community in Rancangan Sungai Luboh, Batu 12 organised by the Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB).

He thanked the SLDB for its efforts in helping the people in the area. In recent years, 415 settlers participating in the “sewa-pajak” scheme have managed to improve their returns from the harvest of oil palm fresh fruit bunches.

He said other government agencies will also continue to help the people particularly in Rancangan Sungai Luboh and Sungai Manila to improve their living standards.

Another project by SLDB is to develop entrepreneurs who are highly skilled, viable and have integrity to enable them to manage oil palm plantations efficiently besides being able to explore and venture into other economic fields that are profitable.

“For a start, this project will invite participants from the East Coast including Rancangan Sungai Luboh and Sungai Manila. So grab this opportunity given to you by the government,” said Musa.
