Sepanggar Umno Youth hosts ‘Jejak Pahlawan’

9th August, 2012

KOTA KINABALU: Since 2009, the Sepanggar Umno Youth has been organising the ‘Jejak Pahlawan’ Programme for Primary Six pupils in the Sepanggar constituency.

The programme allows the pupils to learn about Sabah’s history and past leaders especially the late Tun Datu Mustapha bin Datu Harun who was instrumental in leading Sabah to independence.

Mustapha, Sabah’s first Head of State also played a lead role in pioneering the education sector in the State.

He was a freedom fighter during World War II and an inspiring leader.

Sepanggar Umno Youth Chief Mohd Joh Wid said the programme this year being the fourth organised by the movement, was also aimed at instilling the spirit of patriotism in the pupils.

“Every year, we will identify a primary school from around the State Capital and Sepanggar and bring between 50 and 100 pupils specifically those in Primary Six to visit the Galeri Tun Mustapha.

“At the gallery, they have the opportunity to learn all about our ‘Bapa Pendidikan’, Tun Mustapha himself. They can also learn about his vision for Sabah as well as his personal life,” Mohd Joh said.

The pupils will also attend a multi-vision show on Yayasan Sabah Foundation and its role in developing education in the State, he added.

Yesterday, it was the turn of 50 pupils from SK Gudon in Menggatal to visit the gallery and they also participated in a quiz conducted by the gallery’s management.

Mohd Joh said pupils from Primary Six were selected because they are reaching maturity and are at the point where they will be making important decisions in their lives.

He said the programme is held in August every year in conjunction with the ‘Merdeka Month’.

“It is also aimed at sowing the seed of patriotism in the pupils as well as making them appreciate what our past leaders have done for the State.

“We want to produce knowledgeable and patriotic human capital for the State and country,” he added.
