PUTATAN: Contractors carrying out construction work in Kampung Ketiau and Kampung Serigai near here have been urged not to use heavy vehicles when transporting their building materials.
Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said, it would be useless even if the project is completed several months ahead of schedule when the roads in the kampung are beginning to show signs of severe damage.
Yahya is laying the blame on heavy vehicles using these roads as the main cause for the deterioration of the roads in the village.
“I urge the contractors concerned to use smaller trucks when transporting their goods because having the roads in such condition a few months after the completion would not be beneficial to us,” he said.
He made the statement to the media during an inspection of the village roads that were in stages of being upgraded in the two kampungs.
The cost of road maintenance work in Jalan Lorong Kampung Ketiau is worth RM80,000. Whereas, the upgrading of the road into Kampung Serigai is worth RM43,000, upgrading of the gravel road to Jalan Premix Kampung Serigai Phase I and Phase II is worth RM55,000 and RM50,000 respectively.
Yahya also visited the road maintenance work at Jalan Lorong Kampung Ketiau which is worth RM80,000 and the construction site of a new home worth RM50,000 under the Housing Assistance Programme (PBR) for a local retired resident, Matahar Robin.
According to Yahya, Matahar is eligible for the housing assistance and is calling on others who live in dilapidated houses and have their own land to apply for such assistance. He promised that more projects will be carried out in the future in the two kampungs.
Accompanying Yahya on the visit were his Political Secretary, Mahlan Zinin, Putatan District Officer, Ag. Abd. Ghani Pg. Yusoff, People Development Leader, Petagas, Ali Hussin Sharin and several community leaders.
