Body of Bugis man found

2nd August, 2012

LABUAN: The police here discovered the body of a Bugis man believed to have fallen from the first floor of the Times Square building near the Labuan Square here yesterday.

Federal Territory of Labuan police chief, Superintendent Saiman Kasran said the victim, 52, from Kampung Pantai, who worked as a carpenter was found lying unconscious on the ground floor of the building at about 5 pm.

The victim was found by a security guard on patrol who later lodged a police report.

Saiman said a police team led by police station chief, Inspector Sukvinderjeet Singh then went to the scene to investigate.

The victim was found with head injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead due to severe bleeding caused by the injuries.

Police have classified the case as sudden death and ruled out any foul play.

In the meantime, Saiman reminded all employers to constantly improve safety measures in order to reduce accidents at their workplaces.

Meanwhile, in another development, Saiman said a local man from Kampung Layang-Layangan here was detained by police for being involved in drug abuse.

The suspect, aged 36, who had been arrested several times before for similar offences, was detained at about 10pm at the Labuan Airport departure hall, last Monday.

Following the arrest, Saiman said police found a clear plastic bag containing 3.73 grams of syabu.

The suspect, who tested positive for syabu, was being remanded for four days under Section 12 (2) and 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
