Construction of mini hospital in Nabawan resumes

16th July, 2012

NABAWAN: The construction of a mini hospital in Nabawan that had been deferred previously will now resume, promised Pensiangan Member of Parliament, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup.

According to him, the project was delayed because the cost was still being negotiated after a new contractor was appointed several months ago.

Kurup who is also the Deputy Minister of Natural Resource and Environment said the cost had to be revised after the project was upgraded from a 4S health clinic to that of a mini hospital.

“The costing needed to be thoroughly revised because the hospital needs to be ready within 15 months,” he said while telling people in the area not to be taken in by allegations from the opposition that the hospital will never be built.

Kurup said he had met with the Minister of Health and Second Finance Minister to discuss the cost and inform them of the contractor’s request for additional allocation.

The project became a widely spoken topic for the opposition after the previous contractor failed to complete the health clinic with x-ray facilities, which was abandoned for more than a year.

Meanwhile, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) will defend its quota for the Pensiangan parliamentary seat in the 13th general election.

Party president, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said PBRS had served the people in the area under the Barisan Nasional (BN) umbrella and therefore it was only appropriate for the seat to remain with the party.

“We want to contest in Pensiangan because this is the party’s seat quota,” said Kurup when speaking to reporters after inspecting the Mobile Court counter at SK Tampusison here on Saturday.

However, he conceded that the choice of candidates was the prerogative of Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as chairman of BN and Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman as the Sabah BN chairman.

He believed both the Prime Minister and Chief Minister had their ways to determine which candidates were winnable or otherwise.

Kurup added that PBRS was fully prepared to face the impending election and that the party machinery had been mobilised right down to the grassroos level.
