GREAT LIFT … Mark Allen Mogindol (centre) was named Champion of the Champions after he defeated eight other contestants.

2nd July, 2012

TAWAU: Mark Allen Mogindol, the champion of the 2012 Mr Sabah Body Building Contest, has set his sights on the gold medal at the ‘Mr Malaysia 2012’ contest scheduled for July 13 and 14 at the Star City and Event Centre in Kota Kinabalu.

Mark Allen, 36, who is with the Kota Kinabalu City Hall Council enforcement unit, was named “Champion of the Champions” after he defeated eight other contestants at the event held at the Tawau Community Hall, here, on Saturday night.

“After the state-level contest, my target is to win the Mr Malaysia title. Even though I am targeting the gold medal, I prefer to contest as the underdog,” he told reporters when met after being crowned Mr Sabah by Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin.

Despite being optimistic about his chances, he said he expected a tough challenge from the consistent Armed Forces contestants. Nevertheless, he said, he would step up his preparation which he has been engaged in over the past 11 months.

He ventured into the sport six years ago and has represented Sabah over the past four years.

Earlier, Peter Pang, in his speech, complimented the organisers of the contest, and said it was hoped that the contestants in future championships would also be of the highest quality in the effort to make Sabah a power house in the sport.
