KUALA LUMPUR: Three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers, named in the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the death of Teoh Beng Hock, will know their fate soon when the decision on the disciplinary action against them is decided.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abu Kassim Mohamed said he would submit a recommendation to the MACC complaints committee on the case before any disciplinary action was taken.
“We have decided on what disciplinary action to be taken. We will inform the committee in the next meeting,” he told reporters after handing the MACC Annual Report to Parliament Special Select Committee on Corruption chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad at parliament lobby, here, yesterday.
Abu Kassim had said in April that the three officers named had been asked to provide an explanation in connection with the accusations against them, when investigations found their actions when investigating Teoh Beng Hock contravened disciplinary procedures.
Teoh, 30, political secretary to Selangor exco Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead in the corridor on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam, Selangor on July 16, 2009 after giving a statement at the Selangor MACC office on the 14th floor of the building.
The inquiry on Teoh’s death had concluded that Teoh killed himself after he felt burdened and stressed by the aggressive and lengthy interrogation against him by the MACC investigating officers.
