Overwhelming students’ participation at Sindex 2012

24th June, 2012

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Invention & Design Exhibition (Sindex) 2012 has received an overwhelming response from students in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Organising Chairman Nicholas Fernandez said that Sindex 2012 is indeed one of the most successful Sindex to date judging from the number of entries received this year.

He said this during the Sindex Interview Session for the West Coast Division held at the School of Engineering & Information Technology Hall in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Campus here yesterday.

The total numbers of students’ participations received throughout the State, including Labuan FT is estimated to be more than 430 entries.

“I believe this is one of the highest number of entries, if not the greatest, in the history of Sindex and for this, I wish to congratulate and extend my appreciation to the all hardworking committee and sponsors, in particular the leading international motivational speaker and consultant Dr Ali Qassem,” he remarked.

Nicholas also thanked Paul Chong, Ummai Salmah of the State Education Department and all those involved in the motivational trainings and talks organised which had obviously resulted in this overwhelming success.

Judging committee secretary Mohd Aiddy Suffian Abd Rashid concurred with Nicholas.

“This is only my second time in-charge for the West Coast Division Judging and in the previous international in 2010, we only have 180 entries.

“However this year the number of entries has doubled to 350 entries for West Coast only with almost 1,000 students taking part,” he stated.

There were 117 entries for the Electrical & Mechanical category, 123 for the General Technology & Engineering, 66 (Chemical) and 44 entries (Office & Education category),” he disclosed.

Dr Ali who was just appointed as the Sindex 2012 Training & Development chairman recently attributed this year’s fantastic response to his methods of training and different approach to the matter.

“I have decided to adopt a different approach totally as previously the training focus was on the students, but this time around, I put the training emphasise on the teachers,” he said to this writer.

The end-result is what you can see, the overwhelming response to Sindex 2012, he said adding that the teachers who have gone through his training did their part to teach the students.

It was a very effective method of training, asserted Dr Ali who is a leading international motivational speaker, management consultant, trainer and an author on management and personal development.

He has conducted seminars as well as courses and helped to develop thousands of people from Malaysia, in particular Sabah, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan.

He has also conducted seminars in Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Brunei, and the Middle East from all levels from chief executive officers to school students.

“I enjoy developing the human capital since the early part of my career in the production line and my passion for developing the human capital has never faded away. In fact, it increases every time I face a challenge,” he stressed.

Participants of his programmes often describe him as knowledgeable, excellent communicator, interesting and humorous, and the contents and style of his programmes are highly engaging and motivating.

Meanwhile, the Tawau Sindex 2012 will be held on the July 14, 2012 at the Marco Polo Hotel, while the Labuan Sindex 2012 is scheduled on the July 21, 2012.

The date for the Sandakan Sindex 2012 has been tentatively fixed in August 2012.
