TAWAU: A total of 10 houses in Kampung Pasir Putih here were damaged when strong winds swept the village on Friday.
In the 4am incident, gust of winds blew off roofs but did not cause any injuries to occupants.
One of the affected residents Darmawaty Sandaringi, 45, said there were some anxious moments when the wind came.
“My house shook as though there was a tremor and suddenly we realised we were missing our roof,” she said.
Another resident Osman Muhayat, 29, said the incident happened so fast that he did not realised the roof was blown off.
“I only realised that there was no roof when we felt raindrops inside the house,” he recalled.
According to Osman, there were 10 family members in the house who were shaken from their sleep.
“We got everyone out of the house immediately,” he said.
Both Darmawaty and Osman were thankful that no one was hurt in the incident, which received the attention of Kalabakan MP Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh.
Ghapur accompanied by Sebatik Assemblyman Abdul Muis Picho later gave out material assistance to repair the damaged houses.
Tanjung Batu Assemblywoman Datuk Hamisa Samat also assisted in giving out food assistance to the victims.
