Who would have thought that a pretty young lady would choose to further her studies in agriculture? But Lim Schian Yee is doing just that. The daughter of an oil palm planter, Schian Yee was brought up from young to love greens and develop a passion especially for edible fruit bearing plants that contribute to the global food chain.
“We are really so dependent on plants for our food and with the ever worsening climatic change and fast growing world population, we will need to produce more food to overcome widescale food shortage. I believe that by pursuing my tertiary studies in agriculture, I will be able to acquire knowledge in modern agricultural techniques and biotechnology and be involved in developing new breeds and varieties of disease resistant and high yielding plants to increase both the quality and quantity of food products.” Schian Yee enthused.
She was one of two young ladies who were recently awarded the jointly sponsored Hap Seng fertilizer and Canpotex scholarship for a full-time degree programme in Agriculture, tenable at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, for the academic year commencing September 2012.
Schian Yee an ex-Tshung Tsin Secondary School student completed her Cambridge GCE A-Levels in Institute Sinaran. She emerged as one of the institute’s high achievers, scoring straight A’s in the November 2011 exam.
