Taylor’s Biz School and Tokio Marine Life to scout young talents

18th June, 2012

Collaborating with yet another top employer, Taylor’s Business School (TBS) joined forces with Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd (Tokio Marine Life) to organise the TBS-Tokio Marine Marketing Challenge Trophy 2012. A total of 37 students from eight teams participated in this online simulation competition, which was held from May 28, 2012 to June 8, 2012. The winning team, Big Bang, walked away with RM500 worth of cash prize. Legendary and Zebra Cycles, who were named the first and second runner-up of the challenge, received RM300 and RM100 respectively.

Big Bang, comprising business foundation students, Cheah Wern Hong, Ho Wai Jian, Edward Tan Wee Hong, Chia Chee Fong and Chin Weng Ian, won the hearts of the judges with their compelling marketing strategies. The challenge was created by Professor Dr. Khong Kok Wei, Programme Director for Postgraduate, Taylor’s Business School, who administered the online simulation software to determine the winners. All teams were judged based on how they overcome the economic crisis by determining the price, product, promotion and market place.

This collaboration was initiated in line with Taylor’s University mission of becoming ‘Top Employers’ Top Choice University’. The event will not be successful without the right partner like Tokio Marine Life, a preferred life insurance company in Malaysia with over 130 years of global expertise and more than 60 years of local experience.

Students from the business school were given the opportunity to develop marketing strategies for new ventures through online platforms, thus being exposed to how the strategies can be applied effectively in an actual industry environment. Taylor’s Business School has been actively collaborating with top employers like Tokio Marine Life with the aim of ‘bringing the industry into the campus’, to enrich the students’ learning experience.
