MHDC targets RM650,000 in sales during state level Kraf Malaysia campaign

14th June, 2012

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Branch of Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation (MHDC) is aiming to achieve sales worth RM650,000 during the MHDC’s seventh state level promotional campaign to be held at Lintasan Deasoka here for 10 days, beginning this June 22.

Director of MHDC Sabah Branch, Mohd Latif Dirun, said the projection was based on the highly encouraging response seen during last year’s event where sales amounted to RM616,000.

“This is a continuous effort of MHDC with the cooperation of the Kota Kinabalu City Hall to intensify the marketing and promotions of Malaysian craft products at the domestic level,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

Mohd Latif said the event had the participation of 80 handicraft producers nationwide including from the states of Kelantan, Sarawak, Selangor and Terengganu.

The promotions cover products such as forest based crafts, textiles, other crafts as well as metals.

Among products to be showcased at the event are new batik creations based on the ethnicity of Sabah, crystal items, bead works and others.

Mohd Latif said the event, besides giving the opportunity to handicraft producers to market their products nationwide, would also provide an avenue for players, operators and wholesalers in the industry to meet up.

He also called on the people in Kota Kinabalu to come in full support of the event to make it a success.
