KOTA KINABALU: After the overwhelming success of last year’s Mini Job Fair in Ranau, the Ministry of Resource Development and IT will now hold two similar events elsewhere this year.
The first of the 2012 Job Fairs will be held in Tambunan on June 17 at the Pisompuruan Square while Beaufort will host a similar event in October. The main Job Fair itself will be in Kota Kinabalu on Nov 30–Dec 1.
“Given that it is not cheap to travel all the way to the state capital in search of jobs, my Ministry will do its best to reach out to the school-leavers and unemployed instead.
“And if the response (in Tambunan and Beaufort) is just as good, we will consider holding more job fairs all over the State.
“Our aim is to provide job seekers the opportunity to check out their choice of employers and land a dream job,” said Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, in a statement here yesterday.
Last year, when the Ministry held its first job fair outside Kota Kinabalu, there was initial apprehension over the turnout. However, some 2,000 job seekers thronged the community centre in Ranau to see what some two dozen employers had to offer.
“We witnessed an over-whelming response from job seekers and companies looking for staff,” Yee said, stressing that supporting small business development and expanding the job base is essential to growth and development.
Highlights of the job fairs include face-to-face interviews, resume criticism and writing as well as career talks.
Employers, whether local companies or multinationals are invited to participate and showcase job opportunities available in their companies.
Participating employers will each be given a booth with basic amenities provided at no charge.
