SANDAKAN: Folks at Kampung Tinusa 2 welcome the announcement that the damaged wooden bridges in their village will be replaced with concrete structures as soon as possible.
“Concrete bridges will be more durable compared to wooden ones and I have discussed the matter with the Sandakan Municipal Council president (Datuk James Wong),” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said during a press conference after visiting the two villages in his Sungai Sibuga constituency on Sunday.
Musa said the existing wooden bridges were in a bad state and he had discussed with the Sandakan Municipal Council president and village leaders to replace them with cement bridges as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on the second phase of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M), Musa, who is also State Finance Minister and Sungai Sibuga Assemblyman, welcomed any decision by the central government to continue distributing the assistance to help lessen the burden of the lower-income groups.
“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in their speech said the government will consider to continue giving the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M). This shows the nation’s top leaders have great concern and care for the people,” Musa said.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) government has implemented development and aid schemes worth millions of ringgit for the benefit of the people in the country including Malaysians in Sabah. It has delivered its election and budget promises to the rakyat, Musa added.
“Barisan Nasional’s more than 50 years of track record has shown that it is the only one capable of bringing progress and development to the country,” he said.
He said the opposition parties are like medicine peddlers who deliberately mislead the rakyat to achieve their political agenda.
“They are insincere leaders who are only good in making empty promises and spreading lies against the Barisan Nasional,” he added.
In this context, Musa said, the BN election machinery and all grassroots leaders should continue explaining to the people in their areas the various development programmes that have been and will be implemented by the BN government and to counter allegations by the opposition that undermine government programmes.
The Sabah Umno Liaison chairman also called on all wings of Umno to work closely together and strengthen their network to ensure a larger voter turnout and victory for Sabah BN in the 13th General Elections.
On a lighter note, when replying to a question on the EURO 2012, Musa, whose favourite team is Germany, attributed the team’s victory in their opening match to strong players and good teamwork.
Musa was accompanied by, among others, Sandakan Municipal Council president Datuk James Wong, Sandakan Municipal Council deputy president, Haji Mohd Hamsan Haji Awang Supain, Gum Gum Assemblyman, Datuk Zakaria Edris and Sekong Assemblyman, Datuk Samsudin Yahya, during his visit to Kampung Tinusa 2 to inspect infrastructure at the village.
He also visited the Umno Operation Room in Kampung Batu Putih where he was briefed by the Batu Putih Darat Branch chairman, Hanif Ali, on preparations for the general election.
