Seven teams for Mr Borneo Bodybuilding Championship

2nd August, 2011

KOTA KINABALU: Seven teams are expected to take part in the Mr Borneo Bodybuilding Championship 2011, organising committee chairman Victor Kou announced yesterday.

This time around, Victor said besides seasoned campaigners like Sarawak, Brunei, Federal Territory of Labuan, and host Sabah, they have also decided to invite Sabah Police and Sabah Armed Forces to join the fray in the annual tournament to be organised by the Sabah Amateur Bodybuilding Association.

“We have had an organising committee meeting over the weekend, and we have agreed to invite the two teams – Sabah Police and Sabah Armed Forces. We are also expecting Kalimantan, Indonesia to send at least one team to the tournament,” said Kou when contacted yesterday.

He said that during the meeting they have also confirmed that the one-day championship would be held on October 29.

“But we are still undecided on the venue. We have a few options, but will only announce it when we finalise it,” he added. He also revealed that they have also decided on the eight categories to be competed.

“We have decided on the categories. The eight categories are Novice Mr Borneo, Flyweight, Bantamweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, Light-Middleweight, Middleweight and Light-Heavyweight.

“There will also be the champion of the champions, while the winner will receive a trophy as well as RM1,000 prize money.

“We are also giving away the Best Poser award as well as the overall winner for the participating teams,” said Kou.

Unlike last time out, Kou said that this time there will be pre-judging.

“The pre-judging will be done in the morning while the final during a fund raising dinner.

“So I hope avid bodybuilders will prepare themselves for this upcoming tournament,” he said, before adding that the championship is open to all bodybuilders in Sabah.

He revealed their plans of inviting Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, who is also the patron of the Sabah Amateur Bodybuilding Association, to be the guest of honour for the championship.

For the record, Sarawak are the defending overall champions, while the champion of the champions crown was won by a Brunei hulkster.
