KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is blessed with abundant natural gifts; the long white-sand beaches, the high mountain ranges and the rainforest with high diversity of flora and fauna.
It is critical that we build on these gifts and the younger generation must be exposed to our great treasures so that they can be part of them, either to help protect them or to be ambassadors of them, both with the spirit of sustainability in mind.
Last month, 250 students of SMK Kundasang participated in the tourism awareness training workshop.
Tourism awareness is a program initiated by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and the day’s programme exposed students to the introduction of the tourism industry that has played an important factor to the state as it is ranked third as an economic generator.
Sabah Tourism Board has been given the responsibility with its co-organizer Asian Tourism International College to organize the training workshop.
One of the main topics mentioned is the significance of toilet cleanliness especially at tourism spots, malls and recreational centres.
At the end of the workshop, students were able to work together to sustain the tourism industry.
