KOTA KINABALU: Some 1,200 units of properties worth around RM550 million had been sold at the Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHAREDA) Property Exhibition 2010, which ended at Sabah Trade Centre on Tuesday.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the expo, SHAREDA President Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said they represented 20 per cent of more than 6,000 property units worth RM2.3 billion on display at the four-day event.

Last year, more than 5,034 units of properties worth RM2.2 billion were exhibited with 20 per cent or RM500 million sales recorded. This year, the sales had been slightly higher.

Susan also requested the Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor who performed the closing ceremony to address the issue of 5 per cent banker’s guarantee for housing developer’s licence.

The guarantee is needed to avoid housing projects from being abandoned by developers and SHAREDA has appealed that once the occupation certificates have been issued, only a smaller sum should be retained for the 18-month maintenance period, instead of 5 per cent of the total development cost.

Some 50 development projects were showcased at this year exhibition and among them were Masama-Winquest JV Sdn Bhd from Tawau; Bukit Kiara Properties Sdn Bhd and Supex Properties Sdn Bhd, both from Kuala Lumpur and others from around Kota Kinabalu.

In conjunction with the exhibition, MyAds had successfully organized a fund raising campaign in aid of two members of Kota Kinabalu Widows Welfare Association.

The money was handed over to the two recipients by Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah handed over RM15,000 to the two beneficiaries, namely Chong Sut Pin and Lo Nyuk Len.

Aside from showcasing their development projects, the developers were also given recognition for their efforts. LT Alliance Development Sdn Bhd won the best decorative booth award. It also won second place in the best creative model house award for their Ceriamas phase 3 project.

The best creative model house award was won by Sunsea Development Sdn Bhd for their KK City Waterfront project and the company also won the second place in the best decorative booth award.

Mega Sunwise Sdn Bhd’s Rose Garden Plaza project won the third spot for the best decorative booth award and best creative model house award respectively.

The best creative & unique brochure award was won by Bukit Kiara Properties Sdn Bhd for their verve suite. The second and third place winners were Benua Maxis Sdn Bhd (R55) and Hap Seng Properties Development Sdn Bhd (Indah Regency-Bandar Sri Indah Phase 2C), respectively.
