KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) vice president Datuk Peter Pang En Yin (pictured) has resigned from the party with immediate effect.
And, he has also offered to relinquish his government posts.
Pang, a Deputy Chief Minister and Youth and Sports Minister announced his resignation in the wake of LDP’s recent declaration that it could no longer work with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman who is also Sabah BN chairman.
Pointing out that ‘the only thing left is to gracefully leave the party’ Pang said he had already met LDP president Datuk VK Liew to explain why he needed to quit the party.
“And I have sent my resignation letter addressed to the party headquarters this (Wednesday) morning,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
The Karamunting Assemblyman added that the decision to resign from the party was no doubt a painful one but it was inevitable.
Pang also said he was aware that his decision to quit LDP may affect his position in the government “and therefore I am offering to step down as Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Youth and Sports Minister.
Later when contacted by New Sabah Times, he said:” I am about to board a flight to Sandakan. I want to hand over my letter offering to resign from my government posts to the Chief Minister.”
Pang however asserted that he would continue to serve as a BN Assemblyman under the leadership of the Chief Minister.
“As my intention is to serve the people, I will request Datuk Seri Musa to guide me accordingly,” he said.
Asked if he intended to join another political party, he said this was an option but he has not thought about it yet.
To another question, Pang said: “ I feel sad…and yet relieved.”
He also said what he did was for the good of the people of Sabah ‘and I want to ensure the BN government will continue to remain stable so as to bring more development to the people”.
Meanwhile, Pang who appeared emotional and teary-eyed during the press conference, said he was not at the recent Sabah BN meeting and was not consulted on the move against the state leadership.
