KOTA KINABALU: Clarines Joseph and Tengku Hadzali Shah will be leading the Malaysian challenge at the second upcoming Malaysia Open Darts Championships to be held at 1Borneo Hypermall from Oct 1 to 3.
This year will also see the event being held for the first time in an open venue which is the Centre Atrium of 1Borneo Hypermall which is expected to attract at least 70 teams of world class darters as they vie for the top spot in the team, men’s singles and ladies singles categories.
This year’s Malaysia Open will be selecting players to represent Malaysia at the Japan Open scheduled to be held in Tokyo in November.
As with last year’s event, a 2nd Chance Team Event will be played for participants who did not make the cut for the second round in the main event.
Both Clarines and Tengku Hadzali will be in the forefront of the Malaysian challenge against seasoned players from Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia and for the first time – the USA.
Included in this line-up is Asia’s No. 1 ranked darter, Lawrence Ilagan from the Philippines.
Malaysia’s No.1 ranked female singles darter Monica Liduin will be confronted with top lady darter from the Philippines, An-An Awitan.
Having such an impressive line-up promises some exciting action at the dart boards and the public is welcome to attend all the events to cheer for their favourite teams.
After his win in the Men’s Singles event at last year’s Malaysia Open, Clarines Joseph from Sabah was selected for the national team and he took part in the World Darts Championship in Charlottee, North Carolina, USA in Sept 2009.
He partnered Tengku Hadzali Shah and together they brought home the bronze medal in the men’s doubles event.
A total of RM27,000 in cash prizes sponsored by 1Borneo, awaits participants.
Up for grabs is the top cash prize of RM8,000 for the Team Event, RM2,000 for the Men’s Singles, RM1,000 for the Ladies Singles and RM1,500 for the 2nd Chance Team Event.
Registration will be open at 9am on Oct 1 which is the first day of the championship.
The event is jointly organised by Sagajuta Creatives and Communications and co-sponsored by Carlsberg Malaysia.
