ACT OF THE CHAMPION … Geinod struggles as he tries to lift a 90kg stone onto the platform.

1st September, 2010

KOTA KINABALU: Geinod Lozitin was crowned the champion of the JBORNEO Tuhun Tavakas Challenge 2010 in a closely contested battle held at the JBORNEO Native Village in Lok Kawi (next to the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park (Zoo) on Sunday.

It was an interesting finish to the two-day event organised by JBORNEO Native Village with the race to the crown fought until the very end that eventually saw Geinod emerging as the winner.

The Penampang lad clinched the title after accumulating a total of 28 points – a mere one point ahead of second placed Alfred Magabis from Kudat, while third placed Mark Alan Mogindol, also from Penampang, was three points behind.

Kudat’s Honesty Angandoi claimed the fourth spot after winning the playoff battle against Sabah’s Strongestman Challenge 2010 winner James Wee.

“I’m very happy because I didn’t expect this. I was competing only to give this strength sport a try, and just wanted to have fun,” said Geinod.

“This strength sport is so different. It is so demanding and it pushes you to the limit all the time.

“You also need to be mentally strong and know how to handle all the disciplines, and I found that Grip Endurance was the most difficult among them.

Geinod said he was still unsure whether to compete in the Sabah’s Strongestman Challenge 2011 next year.

“I’m not sure yet because you really have to be well prepared before competing,” said Geinod, who wished to share his victory with his sponsor Wahlim Trading.

Geinod got off to a slow start picking up just two points in the first discipline after finishing fifth in the Car Deadlift event that was won by Shen Affendy Mathius from Keningau who managed to do 23 lifts. Second was James Wee with 20 lifts, followed by Mark (15), Alvin Laudy Fred (14), Geinod (13), and Honesty (10) respectively.

Then he finished second in the Tire Flip to earn himself seven points. Honesty won the event after clocking the fastest time. Mark finished in third followed by Jerry Nonong from Keningau, James, and Honesty respectively.

Geinod failed to earn any points in the Grip Endurance event to eventually see him finishing seventh after the first day of the competition with James Wee leading the pack on 13 points.

Bainie Luli from Keningau won the Endurance Grip event.

Bainie, who is the smallest among them all, clocked the fastest time of 22.4 seconds.

Jerry Nonong was the second fastest with a time of 23.3 seconds, while James was third (23.6 seconds), followed by Mark (24.3 seconds), Alfred (25.5 seconds) and Stanie (25.6 seconds).

The first discipline on Day 2 – Choked Truck Pull – was won by Alfred. He recorded the fastest time of 22.91 seconds, followed by Geinod (27.64 seconds), Aeron Majamin (from Kepayan – 28.43s), Jerry (28.63s), Honesty (31.4s) and James (31.95s) respectively.

Geinod excelled in the Farmer’s Walk event. He won the event for a full 10 points. Mark was second followed by Alfred in third. James, Honesty and Stanie finished in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

The last and final event Atlas Stone was won by Alfred.

He was the only man who managed to lift the five stones weighing 90kg to 130kg to a platform.

Mark managed to lift four to finish in second, while Aeron finished in third with three stones on the platform.

Honesty also managed to put three stones, but finished behind Aeron, who recorded the fastest time followed by Geinod and James, both with two stones on the platform.

The feat saw Geinod take home RM1,000, a Trophy and JBORNEO accommodation voucher, second placed Alfred settled for RM700, while Mark pocketed RM400.

Fourth, fifth and sixth placed Honesty, James and Jerry won RM300, RM200 and RM100 respectively.

Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Tan Sri Bernard Dompok was represented by his Private Secretary, Fred Moosom, in gracing the closing ceremony and giving away the prizes to the winners.

JBORNEO Native Village owner, Jivinsol Moosom was also there.
