KUALA LUMPUR: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) yesterday granted full scholarships to four outstanding students to pursue undergraduate studies in the United Kingdom as part of efforts to develop its talent pool and meet the organisation’s long-term development needs.
Speaking at the scholarship award ceremony held at the EPF Headquarters yesterday, EPF Chairman Tan Sri Samsudin Osman said, “Knowledge is a prerequisite for organisational excellence especially given our highly globalised environment. It is our sincere hope that the scholarships offered today will enhance the organisation’s ability to meet the demand for highly knowledgeable Malaysians who will be able to continuously drive the organisation towards higher levels of achievements.”
All four students will pursue first degree studies at top universities in the United Kingdom in the fields of Economics, Business Mathematics and Statistics, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Upon graduation, they are required to serve at the EPF and contribute towards the organisation’s primary objectives as a retirement fund for the ultimate benefit of EPF members.
As a highly valued form of social responsibility, the EPF Scholarship Programme was set up in 2006 with the objective of developing its human capital needs through helping outstanding and deserving Malaysians pursue undergraduate degrees at premier universities overseas. Applicants are chosen on the basis of high academic achievement, integrity of character and potential for leadership and in the past, ten scholars have received the scholarship. Meanwhile, the four scholarship recipients were advised to take full advantage of the opportunity to explore new territories and scale new heights. In addition, they were reminded of their obligatory roles in the further development of the EPF as well as Malaysia.
“Growth and stability of an organisation can only be attained through a continuous enhancement of its intellectual asset pool. With this in mind, we look forward to discovering more promising young Malaysians through our scholarship programme – those who are committed to contributing to the organisation’s development as well as to the country,” said Tan Sri Samsudin.
