Hulkster Geinod vows to give his best shot

23rd August, 2010

KOTA KINABALU: Hulkster Geinod Lozitin wants to test his limit when he competes in the JBORNEO Tuhun Tavakas Challenge 2010 to be held at the JBORNEO Native Village located in Lok Kawi, next to the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park (zoo) this weekend (Aug 28-29).

The multiple Mr Sabah heavyweight gold medal winner will be all out to give it a good shot at the strength athletic sport, which he will be competing for the first time.

Geinod, 42, insists he is there not to seek glory, but more to gain a new experience in his life.

“This is a new sport, and I just want to give it a try,” he humbly said when met recently.

“I’m not setting any target nor am I hoping to win … I just want to give it a good shot and to have some fun.

“But like anything else that I do, of course I will do it to the best of my capability,” the Kg Pogunon, Penampang lad added.

Despite his modest stand, the 5ft 11inch tall Geinod, with a body weight of 98kg, is seen as one competitor who could give Sabah’s Strongestman Challenge 2010 champion James Wee, a tough fight.

Wee was the first to confirm his participation in the JBORNEO Native Village organised event.

And Wee is using it as part of his preparations in his title defence at the second edition of the Sabah’s Strongestman Challenge 2011 that has tentatively been set for February, next year.

Geinod, who is married and has two sons and a daughter, has been actively involved in the sport of bodybuilding for about 20 years, and among his greatest achievement at the national level scene is winning a silver medal at the Mr Malaysia Bodybuilding Championship a few years back. This year in Penang, he returned home with a bronze medal.

At the State level scene, Geinod is on top of the world in his weight division, and has been taking home the gold medal for the last several years.

But come Saturday and Sunday, Geinod will find out whether the training he has done over the years will be enough for the Tuhun Tavakas challenge.

This is because Tuhun Tavakas is a completely different ball game than that of bodybuilding.

While bodybuilding is more about flexing one’s muscles, but Tuhun Tavakas will test one to the limit.

Tuhun Tavakas which means strongman in Kadazan language or ‘Orang Kuat’ in Malay and JBORNEO Tuhun Tavakas Challenge 2010 will be held akin to that of the World Strongest Man Challenge.

It will feature six classic Strongman challenges namely Choked Truck Pull, Atlas Stone Lift, Car Dead Lift, Grip Endurance, Farmer’s Walk and Tire flip.

And this JBORNEO Tuhun Tavakas challenge is one of the few events to be held in the build up to the Sabah Strongestman Challenge 2011, which will be held on a bigger scale next year.

JBORNEO Tuhun Tavakas Event Promoter, who is also the Technical Head for Casero Events – the main organiser of the Sabah’s Strongestman Challenge, Roger Frederick said that they are going to hold two or three more events before the Sabah Strongestman Challenge 2011.

Other than the Tuhun Tavakas, a novice team arm wrestling competition will also be held.

The Tuhun Tavakas champion would take home RM1,000, a customised trophy and JBORNEO accommodation voucher, second place RM700, third place RM400, fourth place RM300, fifth RM200 and sixth place RM100.

Meanwhile, cash prizes for the Team Arm Wrestling Competition are RM300 for the top team, RM200 for second place, RM100 and RM40 for second and fourth runner-up.

Registration fee for the Tuhun Tavakas is RM50 and RM20 for the Arm Wrestling competition.
