KOTA KINABALU: The BIMP-EAGA Consumer Fair 2010, which was declared open by Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, Minister of Industrial Development at the Sabah Trade Centre here yesterday, will end on Sunday.
Tan praised Fair organizer, the Sunlit Advertising from Brunei, for choosing Kota Kinabalu as the venue.
“This is a fine example of a Brunei organizer doing the show in Sabah. Similarly, Sabahans may organize fairs in Brunei, Philippines or Indonesia,” Tan said.
He added: “We are proud that Kota Kinabalu has been chosen as the Fair venue. This is testimony of the city as a major tourist destination, and one of the main industrial and commercial centres of East Malaysia.”
A total of 84 booths were taken up by enterprises from members of BIMP-EAGA. Products and services ranging from fast moving consumer goods, high tech gadgets, fashion, accessories, hardware to building materials and tourism are on display.
Besides the exhibits, a crowd puller is the Ocean World, a mini theme park. There will be daily lucky draws culminating in the grand prize for visitors.
Jackson Ting, Managing Director of Sunlit, who is also the organizing chairman of BIMP-EAGA Consumer Fair 2010, said it would be an annual event to provide opportunities for SMEs to promote their products.
He hoped that the event would grow bigger and bigger from year to year.
New Sabah Times and See Hua Daily News are the media partners. Supported by the Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR) under the Ministry of Industrial Development, BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BEBC) collaborated with Sunlit and Sabah-based Reliable Advertisement to bring the exhibitors together.
Among the distinguished guests present at the inaugural launching of the BIMP-EAGA Consumer Fair were Haji Daud Haji Tahir, Consul-General of Brunei; Rudhito Widago, Consul-General of Indonesia and Kazuyoshi Yamaguchi, Consul-General of Japan.
