KUALA LUMPUR: LT Alliance, Multi Bake and Julie Yapp have emerged winners at the 9th Asia Pacific International Entrepreneur Excellence Awards.
Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok was the guest of honour at the awards presentation ceremony held at the Berjaya Times Square in the Federal Capital over the weekend.
After the awards presentation ceremony, Dompok told the New Sabah Times that the winners from Sabah augur well for the state’s economy.
Earlier in his speech, he said, “Malaysia has come a long way from what it was 50 years ago. It is a country built on an enterprising spirit.”
When it once relied on commodities like rubber, tin and timber, Malaysian entrepreneurs were able to add value to these natural resources. He noted Malaysia is now the largest producer of quality rubber gloves.
“As the globalised economic landscape has become more competitive, we need entrepreneurial skills to stay ahead,” Dompok said and praised the platform to recognize entrepreneur excellence.
Another invited guest who shared the rostrum was Hannah Yeoh, state legislator of Subang Jaya, who spoke on behalf of the Selangor State Government. She urged entrepreneurs to apply new technology and best practices to ensure no compromises on standards and quality.
Multi Bake won the Brand Excellence Award for the second consecutive year, with LT Alliance taking the Brand Excellence Award and Leadership Excellence Award. Julie Yapp, who had been named Asia Pacific Smart Women Entrepreneur Awards 2009/2010, walked home with Leadership Excellence Award.
A total of 41 enterprises, out of 686 nominations, from across the Asia Pacific region were honoured in a glittering ceremony.
Due to the stringent process of selecting the winners, the Asia Pacific Entrepreneur Excellence Awards had grown in stature as the most prestigious business awards in Malaysia, and one of the most well represented in the Asia Pacific, said Dr Albert Tan, the lead organizing chairman, who is also the President of the Entrepreneur Development Association of Malaysia (EDA).
He said the objective is to create opportunities and to serve as a bridge linking enterprises of excellence.
EDA is a non-profit organization, with a membership of 500 drawn from diverse fields of trading, investment, education, tourism, construction, transportation, engineering, chemical, textile, finance, automobile, medical, food, law, taxation, high tech and light industries.
It was recently appointed Senior Economic Adviser by the various local governments of China. Using this influence, Dr Tan said, “EDA will continue to be the bridge and window between Malaysia and various cities of China as well as the world over.”
