FOURTH CROWN … Yong Chee Ken receiving his trophy from Pang as Juhar (right) looks on.

12th July, 2010

KOTA KINABALU: Yong Chee Ken claimed his fourth Mr Sabah crown after defeating seven others in what seemed to be the closest ever race in the champion of the champions’ final battle.

It was not until careful comparison before the judges could make their choice as other contenders including ousted champion Mark Alan Mogindol, former champion Henro Lee and the emerging talent of Kasmin Tiangson looked just as good to take the crown.

At the end of the day, Yong Chee Ken was the judges’ pick.

“I’m very happy,” that is all he could say when asked on how he felt about his victorious feat before thanking his employer – the City Hall – for the support they have given him.

Yong, 28, is attached to the City Hall Enforcement Unit, and so is birthday boy Mark Alan, who turned 31 on Saturday.

Henro, 44, also succeeded in retaining his welterweight crown, while Kasmin ousted defending champion Hajimin Wasili from 1Fitness in the lightweight category. Kasmin also won the Best Poser award to make it a memorable night.

The rest of the finalists were Jirom Gundalam and Abdul Mat Sali, who both successfully retained their respective titles – light-flyweight and flyweight respectively.

Yampil Garai, who won the Most Improved Bodybuilder Award, won the bantamweight title by defeating defending champion Hussin Bandu from Tawau, who finished in third. A cook Robin Stephanus claimed the second spot. The last finalist was Geinod Lozitin, who won the light-heavyweight title.

City Hall won the inter-team crown.

The winners of the respective categories will represent Sabah at the Mr Malaysia 2010 which will be held in Penang this weekend.

Deputy Chief Minister cum Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin was there to grace the function.

His Assistant Datuk Jahid Jahim as well as Sabah Amateur Bodybuilding Association Advisor Datuk Juhar Mahiruddin and organising committee chairman Hamdin Kadir were also present.
