National Rugby 7s captain to be selected soon

14th August, 2020

KUALA LUMPUR: The national Rugby 7s team captain will be announced after five senior players have been approved by the National Sports Council (MSN) to join ‘Skuad Projek 2026’.

Malaysia Rugby Union (KRM) deputy president, Fahmy Jalil, said the players are Muhammed Ameer Nasrun Zulkeffli, Muhammad Azwan Zuwairi Mat Zizi, Muhammad Zulhisham Rasli, Amalul Hazim Nasarrudin and Azizul Hakim.

“KRM will inform the team management once MSN has given its approval and shortly afterwards, a player will be announced as national captain,” said Fahmy after an MSN working committee meeting yesterday.

The squad with nearly all players from the youth team training under chief coach, Saizul Hafifi Mohd Noor, for over a month now is on an Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 gold medal quest.

Before this, the team captain for The Philippines Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019 was Mohamad Nasharuddin Ismail, while Zulkifli Azmi was the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 captain.

“I hope the senior players will make a positive impact on the young players,” said Fahmy. In a different development, Fahmy said the State League will restart in September with Selangor and Johor leading the way. – Bernama
