Tenant kills 81-year-old landlady

28th May, 2010

PENAMPANG: Police found a landlord murdered on Wednesday night with multiple injuries to the head.

The victim, identified as Angeline Kouju, 81, was found in a two-storey wooden house in Kg Babah Bunduon near Donggongon.

Acting district police chief ASP Che’ Rafizi Che’ Ramli when contacted said yesterday that a 39-year-old Chinese man was detained to assist in the investigation of the case which they have classified as murder.

He said based on initial investigation police learned that the victim had been living alone in the house where the suspect was renting for RM200 a month and occupying the ground floor.

A heated argument broke out between them when the victim demanded the suspect, who was employed in a mineral water trading store, to pay his rent.

“The victim scolded the suspect for causing so much nuisance when he returned home that night after a drinking session. She then demanded the suspect to settle six months of unpaid rent,” said Rafizi.

He said during the argument, the suspect grabbed the victim’s head and slammed it repeatedly against a microwave oven, causing the multiple injuries.

He added that the suspect broke the house windows to show as if it had been broken into but later confessed what had actually happened when interrogated by police at the scene.

To a question, Rafizi said the victim’s pouch containing cash and some jewelry including a watch she wore remained intact.

The suspect was remanded to facilitate further investigation under Section 302 Penal Code.
