Celebrating Malaysian Heroes: Remarkable companies join forces to celebrate frontliners battling COVID-19

MALAYSIA: Since the government declared the Movement Control Order period in Malaysia, many individuals are taking advantage of this time to bond with their families at home. However, there is a significant group of people who are willing to head out the door everyday to serve the nation and community.

Medical staff, the armed forces, media personnel and food delivery riders are now being hailed as heroes across the nation. Their one request is for citizens to stay home to flatten the curve as they continue to serve us.

Foodpanda and Dentsu Aegis Network (DAN) wanted to reach out to food delivery riders during this challenging time to thank them for their service to the nation. By rallying all their Digital Out Of Home (DOOH) partners, the brands have released thank you messages nationwide.

“We wanted to reach out to all riders to thank them for their service and to let them know that we are thinking of them and appreciate what they have done for their communities during this period,” said Fabian Emanuel, Head of Marketing, foodpanda.

Emanuel added: ”We connected with DAN to explore how we could work together to achieve this. We brainstormed a few different ideas but we decided this would be the best way to reach all food delivery riders as they were on the road.”

“The team at DAN always strive to make a positive impact on the community we live in. When the foodpanda team approached us, we were thrilled to work with them to reach out to our abang rider that always brings us the food we love. We approached media owners we work with to find out if they would be keen to jump on board. DOOH was selected as it is the most efficient medium to reach all food delivery riders in the quickest time possible,” said Yap Chee Weng, Head of Mediabrands, Dentsu Aegis Network.

Media owners came on board to support this cause allowing the message to be displayed on over 150 screens nationwide. These include Big Tree Outdoor Sdn Bhd, BTSJ, Danwan Corporation Sdn Bhd, DMDC Media, ER Ads & Marketing, Ganad Media Sdn Bhd, Icandy Ads Sdn Bhd, Laguna De Bay Sdn Bhd, Lantern Media, LEDtronics Media Sdn Bhd, Megatech Network Sdn Bhd, Out of Home Media Sdn Bhd, Powerscreen, Setia Media Outdoor Advertising, Skyblue Media Sdn Bhd, Spectrum Outdoor Marketing Sdn Bhd, Visual Retale, Vol Star Advertising Sdn Bhd and Wow Media Sdn Bhd.

Henry Low, Managing Director, Spectrum Outdoor (and also President of OAAM), said “This is the time where everyone should help anyone regardless. The food delivery workforce sacrifices their safety making sure food is delivered safely and in a hygienic state. Also, frontliners, like medical personnel, police and army also deserve full respect for their contribution.”
