The cast and producers of the film

19th March, 2010

Belukar, a film which was shot in several places in Sabah and Labuan and the first project of Labuan-based Preston Zaidan Productions Sdn. Bhd. (PZP), had its cast meeting and greeting of the fans at a soft launch on March 13, 2010 at the 1Borneo Hypermall’s Centre Atrium. The launch was organised in the manner of a casual gathering of cast, producers and members of the public to discuss the film.

The fans were also given a big surprise with a sneak peak of the film with two shows in the theatre at Universiti Malaysia Sabah at 4pm and 7.30pm on the same day. The session was held in preparation for the film’s nationwide release, scheduled on May 6, 2010.

Directed by scriptwriter and director Jason Chong, Belukar is the first to be filmed entirely in Sabah and Labuan. Among the locations chosen for filming in Sabah were Ranau, Kundasang and Kota Kinabalu, along with some local memorial sites and monuments.

The film features a mixture of newcomers and seasoned actors and actresses, and stars Tambunan-born actress and television host Daphne Iking and actor Bront Palarae. The rest of the cast includes veteran actor Dato Tarmimi Siregar, Azhar Sulaiman, Danny XFactor, Annuar Chew Kin Wah, Sabrina Hassan, Ray Redzuan, Ekin AF4, Sharmila Dedy M. Borhan, Azwan Kombos, Md. Eyzendy Aziz, Fong U-Shin Xavier and Linora Low.

The producers are very excited that the film is directed in such a way as to feature three of the main languages of Sabah: Malay, English and Kadazan. The film centres on Iking’s character Eva, a Sabahan woman who leads a life as a con artist. Things take a turn for the worse for her when she meets insurance fraud investigator Nik, played by Palarae. They fall in love with each other and the chaos begins.

Belukar represents a milestone in Sabah’s development, standing as one of the first major film releases to feature the state as its primary location, and is an excellent opportunity to explore both its urban and natural scenery from the comfort of a movie theatre. Belukar shows nationwide on May 6, 2010. For more information or to view the movie’s trailer, visit www.belukarthemovie.com.
