Takaful aims to grow its asset base to RM6 billion

18th March, 2010

SHAH ALAM: Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd is targeting to grow its market share in terms of asset base to 50 per cent from 40 per cent currently.

Group managing director Datuk Mohamed Hassan Kamil said the company aimed to increase its market share in the industry with new products and new agency initiatives.

“The takaful asset base for the whole industry in Malaysia stands at RM12 billion and we have about 40 per cent,” he told reporters after a media briefing to announce on Syarikat Takaful Malaysia’s partnership with DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd.

Syarikat Takaful Malaysia’s total asset has grown rapidly to RM4.37 billion currently from RM4 billion last year, he said.

The company is joining forces with DiGi Telecommunications to equip its agents with mobile solutions. Bundled mobile voice and broadband solutions are provided to staff, distributors and business partners in an effort to create better cost and business efficiency.

“The partnership with DiGi Telecommunications will allow us to fully utilise the broadband and EDGE high-speed Internet services as a foundation sales point system to recruit at least 2,000 new agents,” Mohamed Hassan said, adding that the company currently has about 300 agents.

“We are confident that this partnership with DiGi Telecommunications will play an important role in ensuring that all our distributors are better equipped to achieve our business targets,” he said.

Mohamed Hassan said Syarikat Takaful Malaysia also planned to grow its business further in Indonesia.

“We have been in Indonesia for more than 10 years and we need a better distribution mechanism for our products to grow our business in the market,” he said.

Syarikat Takaful Malaysia was looking to tie up with banks in Indonesia, Mohamed Hassan said.

“Bank assurance is the most effective way of distributing our products in the Indonesian market,” he said.

At the media briefing, DiGi Telecommunications’ chief executive officer Johan Dennelind said the company has a leadership position in the small and medium business segment and it planned to grow its business further among large corporations such as Syarikat Takaful Malaysia.
