More Bruneians to visit this year

14th March, 2010

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah was visited by 34,252 Bruneians last year and the number of arrivals this year will surpass the figure, said State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

He said that the daily flight and land route had made Sabah a favourite destination for Brunei holidaymakers.

“We have daily flights via Royal Brunei Airlines and AirAsia from Brunei to Kota Kinabalu,” he said adding that visitors could also opt for the ferry service via Menumbok to reach Sabah.

According to Masidi, the presence of shopping malls such as 1Borneo and Suria Sabah had attracted Bruneians to come to Sabah to shop.

“We hope to attract more visitors from our neighbouring country to visit Sabah,” he said in his speech at a dinner reception for Brunei-based foreign envoys, who are in Sabah for a three-day visit.

The speech was delivered by his assistant Datuk Bolkiah Ismail.

He added that Sabah has its natural beauty and attractions that would captivate visitors.

“Our strong point is the centuries-old rainforest and enchanting islands apart from our internationally-renowned wildlife and culture,” he said.

The envoys were treated to cultural performances by various ethnic groups and among the dances were Sumazau, Igal-Igal, Mogunatip and Mongigol.

They were also given a peep into some of the natural wonders found in the State via a video clip.

Also present were Sabah Tourism Board chairman Datuk Seri Tengku Zainal Adlin and his deputy Datuk Sari Suhut.
