KOTA KINABALU: Sabah, with its biodiversity being one of the richest in the world, is an ideal place for herbal plantation.
Endowed with some of the rarest flora and fauna in the world, Sabah is a treasure trove of pharmaceutical cures, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin, said yesterday.
He was speaking at the opening of a three-day management retreat for top executives of Eu Yan Sang at the Magellan Sutera hotel here.
The retreat was held in conjunction with the soft opening of the company’s first outlet in the state at Suria Sabah.
Eu Yan Sang is Asia’s leading healthcare company with core focus in traditional Chinese medicine.
Its chief executive officer, Richard Eu told a media conference later that the company was interested in exploring business opportunities in the state.
“It continuously works closely with universities to research and develop new products for its global market,” he said.
Among the executives present was Dato’ Anne Eu, the chairman of Eu Yan Sang Malaysia. She presented the company’s herbal products to the chief minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman and Datuk Peter Pang for their good health.
Eu Yan Sang was founded in 1879 with the mission of “Caring for Mankind”, and has been listed on the Singapore Exchange as Eu Yan Sang International Limited since 28 July 2000.
During the occasion, Datuk Dr Mohd Yaakub Hj Johari, president and chief executive officer of Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia) gave a presentation on Sabah Development Corridor (SDC).
This was followed by a briefing on investment opportunities in Sabah by Tseu Kei Yue, principal assistant director of department of industrial development and research (DIDR).
