Depressed for no apparent reasons

7th March, 2010

Q: I used to be a cheerful and happy girl. But since late last year I would often sit alone and cry.

My mother was very concerned. But I couldn’t tell her what was bothering me.

I used to have plans for my future but now I have none at all. I just can’t be bothered with things most teenagers do.

What has happened to me? I feel so hopeless. I am 17 years old.

Cancer

A: You are depressed and lost for no apparent reason and your fears and anxieties from it are making things worse.

There might not be any basis for what you are going through or it might be a result of a much deeper emotional stress.

Talk to a counsellor, some elder you can trust or some friend outside the family. You need their help to sort out your feelings.

You will then understand better what is troubling you. It may also lead to a solution. I am glad that you have a good mother who loves and cares for you.

Share with her. She will help you seek help. Together you will overcome.
