Erase confusing road marks, says motorist

0403-p14a
DANGEROUS... the confusing road markings near the roundabout opposite the Penampang Futsal Court and PWD warehouse

4th March, 2010

Confusing road markings along Jalan Kibabaig in Penampang should be properly erased, says MATA of Luyang.

Relating an incident that happened to him recently, the complainant said that he was leaving the Sabah Cultural Centre in Penampang after a wedding reception and heading towards the nearby Donggongon town.

“I didn’t notice the markings on the road until I was nearing a roundabout. And because of the confusing marks, I swiftly turned to the left lane of the road instead of turning to the right which leads to Donggongon town. And then all of a sudden I ended up on a road curb,” he said.

MATA said that he was lucky that no vehicle was behind his car as had there been one, an accident would have definitely taken place.

Although he does not go through that part of the road often, for the sake of other motorists, MATA hopes that the local authority especially the Public Works Department (PWD) would rectify the situation as soon as possible.

Actionline emailed a picture of the area concerned plus MATA’s complaint to the PWD office in Penampang.

A PWD spokesperson responded by saying that the markings are indeed confusing and should be properly erased.

“We will forward details to the company in charge of the road and it will take the necessary action,” he said.
