Reflexology centres front for vice

23rd February, 2010

KOTA KINABALU: Some massage and reflexology centre are fronts for illegal activities.

And all operators throughout the State are warned not to violate the conditions stipulated in the licence.

The Local Government and Housing monitoring unit led by Abdul Kahar Mohd Idris has uncovered that at least three centres operating in Beverly Plaza in Penampang have flouted the rules.

“The conditions in the licence stated that there will be no renovation in their premises without the approval of the local authority,” he said.

According to him, during checks carried out on Thursday night, three operators had carried out renovations including permanent rooms with permanent doors that could be locked from inside.

They did not obtain any approval from the council and some of the rooms were even furnished with mattress and bathrooms.

Abdul Kahar voiced his concern that the availability of such facilities could lead to manipulation by irresponsible operators to carry out vice activities especially prostitution under the guise of foot reflexology centre.

The operators involved were advised to rectify the violation and at the same time submit their renovation plans to the local authority within two weeks time in accordance with the relevant legislation particularly the building by-law.

If they failed to do so, stern action would be taken against them including demolishing the illegal structure and cancelling their licenses, he said.
